Meet The Cast of MTV’s “Ridiculousness” (2024)

by Aiden Mason

The MTV comedy clip show, Ridiculousness, has been keeping us entertained for nearly 8 years, ever since it first broadcast on August 29, 2011. Hosted by Rob Dyrdek and featuring Sterling “Steelo” Brim and Chanel West Coast in co-hosting positions, Ridiculousness revolves around the mock commentary and off-color remarks provided by the hosts and their guests to viral videos pulled from the net. The success of the show has seen it reproduced in various forms around the world, but the US version is still considered by many to be the original and best. While the guest list and videos change on a weekly basis, the one consistency (and the key to its success) lies in its regular panel of Dyrdek, Brim and West Coast. To find out more about the hosts, keep reading.

Rob Dyrdek

Host, entrepreneur, pro skateboarder and TV personality Rob Dyrdek began his career as a teenager, creating his first company (the Alien Workshop) when he was just 16 years old. Using the skills and business acumen he learned then, he later turned his hand to transforming the fortunes of other business (and creating brand new ones from scratch), turning a fledgling apparel brand into a $500 million-dollar international company, creating the first skateboarding channel, ETB, and the first professional skateboarding league, Street League Skateboarding. In 1998, he continued his history of “firsts” when he became the first pro-skateboarder to develop a private indoor skate park.

Dyrdek’s first foray into TV came with Rob & Big, an MTV show he both created and starred in. He followed up on the success of the show with Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory, a show which would see him side-by-side for the first time with future Ridiculousness co-hosts, Chanel West Coast and Steelo Brim. Intent on capitalizing on his success, Dyrdek launched his own production company, Superjacket Productions, in 2013; the company has since given us the shows The Dude Perfect Show, Crashletes, Snack-Off, and Jagger Eaton’s Mega Life. In tandem with his TV career, Dyrdek has continued his ventures in business, establishing such companies as Battle Eyewear, Silver Trucks, Reflex Bearings and the clothing line, Rogue Status (which he co-owns with Travis Barker of Blink 182 fame). If that wasn’t enough, he’s also the brains behind the Wild Grinders animation series and its accompanying line of toys.

When he isn’t to be found developing business ideas or new TV shows, he’s usually working with the charitable foundation he established in 2003 to build nationwide skate plazas for kids to learn to skate in safety. On the home front, Dyrdek is married to wife Bryiana Noelle Flores, and became a father for the first time at 42 years old when Barbara gave birth to the son, Kodah Dash Dyrdek, in 2016.

Chanel West Coast

Co-host Chanel was born Chelsea Chanel Dudley, but adopted the stage name Chanel West Coast early on in her career. After a chance meeting with Rob Dyrdek in 2008, Chanel was offered a position as his receptionist at MTV. With her foot in the door, Chanel quickly began to make a name for herself, and in 2011, she made her TV debut on the network’s The Hard Times of RJ Berger. Clearly impressed with her screen presence, MTV bosses had no hesitation in offering her a follow-up role on Ridiculousness, which sees her appear alongside old boss Dyredek and fellow co-host Brim. Since then, Chanel has continued to add new credits to her acting portfolio, with a guest spot on the MTV series Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory, and a voice-role as Flipz in the animation, Wild Grinders.

In addition to her TV career, Chanel has built a sideline in music, an industry she’s been interested in since childhood. In 2009, she released the track Melting Like Ice Cream alongside Tiffanie Anderson, and in 2011, she featured on the Planet Hollywood track, Phamous, along with Midi Mafia. That same year, Chanel signed with Zone 4, the record label owned by Polow Da Don. 2012 saw Chanel leave Zone 4 for Lil’ Wayne’s label, Young Money Entertainment, with her first mixtape, Now You Know, released the following year. The tape, which featured such heavyweights as Snoop Dogg, French Montana, Ty Dolla $ign, Robin Thicke and Honey Cocaine, was critically well received, as was its 2015 follow up, Waves. Chanel has continued to release new music (including the singles Blueberries Chills featuring Honey Cocaine, and Miles and Miles (the first track to feature Chanel on vocals)) while developing her TV portfolio further.

Steelo Brim

Television personality and actor Sterling “Steelo” Brim’s first taste of the entertainment industry came with a minor role in the 2001 film, Hardball. After several years of working behind the scenes in A&R and radio, he hit our screens again in 2009 when he landed a part on Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory. Appearing alongside him were future Ridiculousness co-hosts, Chanel West Coast and Dyrdek. In 2011, he landed a gig on Ridiculousness, appearing as a co-host while simultaneously working behind the scenes as executive producer. In addition to Ridiculousness, Brim’s other TV credits including Wild Grinders, in which he features as the voice of Meaty, and Think About Lesson, which sees him give voice to the character of Matt. In addition to the buzz around his TV work, Brim encountered news headlines of a less pleasant sort in 2015, when allegations emerged that he’d sexually assaulted a porn star. The alleged victim, Mary Jean, told police Brim had forced himself on her while she was driving with him in New York. Brim denied the allegations, saying Mary Jean had refused to let him leave the car after she began to exhibit strange behavior, and threatened to tell people he’d raped her if he did. Brim claimed he decided to risk it, leaping from the moving car into the street and injuring his arm in the process. The claims never made it to court, and these days, Steelo enjoys a happy home life with his fiancée, the fashion designer and CEO of House of CB, Conna Walker.
